New Dry Macular Degeneration Treatment!

This new treatment is called Photobiomodulation, which sounds scary, but it uses light to help with the eyes. When you look into the machine, your eyes are bathed in light, which has been shown to reduce the risk of geographic macular degeneration and even wet macular degeneration. To me, this is great by itself to reduce the conversion to both of these diseases. Currently, the only treatment we have is just AREDS II, which only reduces the risk of wet macular degeneration. That's not even the best news! With this treatment, 50% of participants had at least 5 letters of improvement compared to 13.6% of the placebo. This treatment also reduced clinical findings. This might be the only treatment to actually improve dry macular degeneration! It should be available later this year in 2024! The treatment is 3 times a week for 3-4 weeks for the year.
