Apple is trying to help your eyes

Updated: Nov 7, 2023

I love it when this kind of thing happens. When you learn some things you have been preaching for years start coming out in mainstream media. At Apple's press conference this week they started talking about myopia (nearsightedness) management. Some things I have been talking about for years are minimizing the amount of up-close work (to not hold things too close) and trying to take breaks outside to help slow down or prevent myopia (nearsightedness). With Apple's new IOS updates on the Apple watch, it will track your kid's outdoor time to make sure they are outside enough to decrease the risk (they don't need an iPhone for this feature on a Apple watch). Another big thing is on iPads or iPhones they can track how close you are to the phone or tablet by using sensors in the phone or tablet and it will tell you to move it back. This is to also help reduce the risk of children becoming nearsighted (myopia) or reduce the changes in nearsightedness and these are great 1st steps. If you want to learn more about what we do for our office for myopia control beyond these essential tips check out the myopia control page on our website or click the link below.
